My wife and I are new to biking having purchased two recumbents about eight weeks ago.  We now have just over 600 miles on the bike and expect to exceed 1000 mile before the fall ends.  My question is how often should we plan on replacing the tires.  The current tires are Kenda Kwest 100psi tires on Sun Sport CX.

Thanks for any responses.

I commute on my Sun Sport CX all year round. Monday through Friday making it a modest 130-miles a week. The back tire is the one I have replaced 4X from road wear and damage. I have to check my tires each day for damage and spoke integrity. I go through back rims about every 2-years. However, My Sun Tandem is about 3 years old and over 3000 miles on it and the Kenda Kwest are like new.  My wife and I put on about 40 miles on each weekend if the weather is nice for a ride. I go for the high psi tires all the time.  I tend to hit the only pot-holes on the street and paths and sometimes every big branch. Kenda is fine all weather tire for me. But that is just me. The key for keeping a good High PSI tire lasting is keeping it at max psi. It works for me.
I enjoy my Sun Sport. Too bad cars don’t cool smile

I don’t peel out too often and try to avoid skidding, but I generally have gotten 2-3,000 miles on whatever Wal-Mart sells.  I bought some from Meijer a few years back and only got about 1,500 miles before I saw fabric showing.  Price was about $10 both places.  By the way, I liked the Wally’s tires better because they had the reflective sidewall.

awanabug, if the price is right and the tire fits then it is a must to get.
