The Greene Trails Cycling Classic is designed to be a fun, family-oriented “happening.” It is a multi-day event centered in Greene County, Ohio, and is designed to showcase the nationally recognized rail-to-trail system that exists there - and beyond, as well as the communities along the trails.  All rides begin and end at the GTCC campground located at the Fairgrounds Recreation Center beside the Greene County Fairgrounds.  Each day features and utilizes a different section of the trail. Each day’s specific route(s) are supported for rider convenience and safety.  Routes will include on-trail, out-and-back trips, as well as extended rides on rural roads for designated days. The broad network of trails provides an exceptional cycling experience for those families and individuals who want to take part in a bicycle or skating tour but prefer the safety and comfort of staying on the trails. Alternate routes offer a choice for the more adventurous. Each day will offer special aviation-themed entertainment opportunities,  and lots of exciting surprises.

Anyone planning to attend this?  I’m probably going to be in town this year doing a “Staycation” instead of a vacation.  So, may enjoy participating.

Yes, wow!  I just went in to check the pricing.  Not good for the locals, is it?  I think the price includes tent camping space.  That’s fine, and probably reasonable.  But, for those of us who live locally and won’t be camping, they don’t have an option.

Wonder what gives?

I’m not sure why they charge so much for one day.  The entire 4 days is only $90.  The one day option doesn’t even include a t-shirt

Those prices will certainly discourage anyone from choosing the shorter options.  Maybe they’re trying to get people to do the entire event.  Unfortunately that isn’t possible for everyone.  I would be willing to pay $25 for the one day ride but not $60.

I just emailed the following to GTCC.  We’ll see what the response is.

Do you have any options for those of us living locally, not wanting to tent camp, and only wanting to participate in a day or two of the event?

$60 for 1 day is steep for those of us who live local.

There’s some discussion at Pedalopolis about this, and it looks as though you could get some additional local participation if you would provide a more flexible and reasonable pricing.

I had written off participating when I saw the $$.  I can sleep in my own bed and ride to the start point easily.  It will be interesting to hear the response.  Of course, as my wife so smugly told me, you can time your usual morning ride to correspond with the planned ride.

I’m still curious to their logic behind charging such a high price for a one day ride.  I’m sure they figure the one day rider will not be using the camping facilities.  I certainly couldn’t eat $60 worth of food at the rest stops

I thought I remembered you saying you rode in it a couple years back.

If I were organizing the event, I would want to include those of us who ride the trails regularly, not target just riders from outside the area.  As a local rider, I wold be happy to contribute $20-$25 for registration and a t-shirt, knowing that my registration is going to benefit the local trails in some fashion.
