It’s good to see the site supporting the cycling club.

I belong to the club and I’m a member of the board.

Sounds interesting and worthy, but I’m not into touring.  What does the DCC do for commuters?

Commuters can submit their monthly mileage totals.  These are tallied and then reported periodically to local and state officials at times when funding issues come up.

There’s a little something for everyone.  You might enjoy attending some of the larger rides.

For me it get’s me that extra 10% off the Kettering and K&G;Bike shops. You can track your milage if you like. There are some great reading about the Laws and what the Club is doing to make the Dayton area better. You can submet your information as well.  You can also use the group rides to keep up your commuter lets.
But overall I use the 10% off bike parts as needed.  Like today, I need to get a long gear cable (tandem) for my long bike recombent.  My commute this morning I found my cable to be shot.
Some times you can get in to free talks/lectures.

It’s good to see the site supporting the cycling club.

I belong to the club and I’m a member of the board.

It would be nice if the DCC reached out to others in the area doing things to support local cyclists.  Unless one takes an activist position, like Chuck Smith does, they don’t seem to get any recognition from the DCC.  I can’t remember the last time I read something about the Miami Valley Rail Trails website (a fantastic resource) and don’t recall any mention of Pedalopolis.  And I’m sure there’s other resources in the area that I’m not aware of.

Instead of taking 3 to 4 pages in the newsletter to report club business and biking laws, it would be nice to read some useful articles or member interviews.  I doubt if the majority of DCC members are that interested in either.  Don’t get me wrong—I’m interested, but the average member would be interested in reading about the enjoyment of cycling.

Still: great organization!  If the weather holds, I plan to participate in club rides on Tuesday and Friday.

Beverly - I’m sending you a PM on a related subject.

The DCC does a lot of behind the scene supporting of local cyclist.  The tubes passed out on the trails to cyclist by the MetroParks MVP group are supplied by the DCC.  The MetroParks Saturday morning rides are advertised in the ride section of the club newsletter.  We have a Bikeway director who reports conditions on local trails and other activites going on along the local trails.  Most of the MetroPark volunteer bike patrol are also members of the DCC so there is quite a connection to that organization.  The DCC recently facilitated the transfer of funds from the now disbanded GOATS organization to a program for troubled teens.  The program teaches them bike maintenance and they repair bikes donated from the unclaimed inventory of local police departments.  The bikes are then donated to other kids who otherwise might not have a bike.

I’m sure if you approached the board they would be willing to make mention of the website in the club newsletter.  I do know that many of the members use this website to check on current trail conditions.  I’m not sure how many posters here are DCC members but I’m willing to bet it’s a good percentage.

I’m not sure the club members would want to discontinue the reporting of club business in their newsletter grin  This is the main vehicle for the board to report business to the members.

Which Tuesday and Friday ride are you planning to attend?  I lead a ride out of Brookville each Friday morning.  We ride to Arcanum for lunch before returning to Brookville.  It’s a nice flat ride.  I usualy ride out of Brookville on Tuesday evening on a ride designed for all level of cyclist.  It’s another flat ride…it can be hilly if you choose the route that takes you through Lewisburg.

Hello All

I believe the membership rate went up $5.00

I’ll make the change to the article.  Thanks!  BTW:  This increase was in response to the flat membership.

The increase was in response to higher costs to do business…..postage, publishing, etc.  Also taken into consideration was the Calvin’s Challenge event revenue that no longer is run by the club.  The membership total has remained fairly stable on the past few years but the cost to do business hasn’t downer

“Flat membership” means stable membership, Beverly.  wink  One of the things that prompted me to write the front page article was reading June’s DCC business report.  The discussion about membership rate increase, and other ways to help stabilize the club’s finances prompted me to remind Pedalopolis members about the benefits of DCC.

You, Oldshacker and others have done a better job than I of explaining those benefits.  I hope those here who are not members will seriously consider joining and taking part in what the club has provided members for years.

I’m aware that “flat membership” means stable:)  You have to remember that the membership dues haven’t been raised for years.  Even if the membership increased the cost of doing business has increased, too.  More members simply means the postage rates, publishing costs and other costs increases.  The biggest impact on the club was the loss of Calvin’s Challenge:(

I’m sure DCC will find a way to get through the tough times.  It’s a great club and will survive.

I’m closing this topic.
