The fixed gear bike is and has been a wonderful experience so far. I have been in most part towing my little dog Zelda in a modified kid carrier as my feet are locked in to my SPD’s. (lock-in pedals). So far no issues with stopping in time. Front brake and my legs is all I have to stop with. The funny thing is the amount of speed that I get with front 46-chain-ring and 16-cog in back.
Down hills at first where down right an adrenaline rush with the extra weight of the trailer and dog all surrendering to gravity’s law of physics.
As I read and experiment with locking my feet to the pedals I wonder at times why I see so many fixed gear riders without any kind of lock. To me is would be suicide without locking your feet in going down hill. You may not be able to get your feet back on your pedal to brake.
At stop lights and signs it great not to put your foot down to hold up the bike. With my fixed gear it is rather easy to balance upright for a few minutes pitting back and forth.

I’ve never been on a fixed gear.  I’m not sure I could handle the downhill excitement gulp
