Me too!

Well, I have been riding to work most of the time except when the roads are all slick.  Might not get to ride tomorrow if more snow comes.

Cold is miserable, but I can deal with it.  For me something like 60-65 degrees seems optimum.  We have a long way to go before it is that warm!

Anyhow, I concur with you and wish this 10-20 degrees below normal stuff would quit!

I give it up when it gets down in the 50’s. Not real fond of the cold. Don’t like to ride on the street at all. What I’ve seen of the bike paths in my area, they are all snow covered right now. Looks like ppl with skis have been out. Trainer is no fun at all.

I’m with you on cold.  I actually like it above 75 and preferrably 85 unless I am exerting (like bike riding)  I am the guy that was only in the 87 degree waters in Hawaii for about 10 minutes before I had to get out shivering and then ran up & down the beach to warm up for the next 5 minutes.  Before I retired, I wore a long sleeved shirt and a sweater in the office while most others were wearing a T-shirt, and some of them complained how hot it was…

Awanabug, glad to hear your still out there riding. My job shuts down in Jan-Feb.
work start up March 1. I have been out riding on the back roads and the bikeway
beside my house,it’s just about 3 miles, to Hempstead Station road than I can ride
around the business park. Riding in the snow helps keep me sharp, incase I have
to ride on the main roads. My idea temps would be 55 at night and 85 during the
day.I have a problem with sweating, even when it in the low teens. And have to wear
a few lessthings than the avg. person.
I don’t really like the real cold, but have learned to except it in my 30 years
of communting. You just have to except what mother nature throws at you.
Well you be safe out there, and I hope to see you on the Creekside sometime this
spring-summer, my friend.

Good to know you are still out on the bike!  I was intending to ride today, but while I was showering, my back tightened up, and I have been walking crooked and slow ever since.  Probably a good thing though because there were a few cars in the ditch, and I would have no place to go if things got dicey.  So, I fishtailed all the way to work this morning in my pickup, and then fishtailed all the way home.  Yeah, riding in snow can sharpen your wits as well as improve cardiovascular fitness.  Well, as far as clothing in cold goes, if it is above 50 degrees, shorts, t-shirt and a windbreaker are fine.  Below that, sweat pants or wind pants and gloves and ear warmers down to the lower 30s.  Into the mid 20s, I add a layer of gloves and my face mask.  Low 20s, I add another layer on the hands and use toe caps as well as a thin plastic foam piece inside the front of the windbreaker.  Into the single digits, I add thermals on my legs and another layer on the hands.  Takes quite a while to get dressed below 20 degrees.  Like you, I don’t like cold, but I have learned to live with it by layering.  Take care on your rides with the winter hazards in traffic.  Hope to see you too.  Maybe we can do BTW day again if I am available, but not the second meal in Xenia since I am now employed.

BTW sounds like a good idea. And like you I work now so will have
to spik the Xenia one also. I have to be at work at 3:00 pm, so I’ll
have to got back home after the BTW, those pancakes and all the other
stuff are too good to pass up. Don’t know where I’ll ride in from, maybe
5th 3rd with the group from there, or just leave from home, and ride by
myself. Hopely all the snow will be gone by than rolleyes
Be safe out there, and see you than, if things work out.

I must be out of line. I enjoy the commute in any kind of weather, but, I just don’t joy ride in the cold. I have to be commuting. Due to the amount of stress that my work forces upon me, the weather can play a very important part to relieve that stress. The bike is setup for anything nature gives out. The snow has to be over 4-inches to make me reconsider the commute.
I too am tired of the snow. The Kettering side streets still have some really bad sections.  County line still is okay but the cars suck on Stroop.

Scratch that.  I got laid off today.  Feb so far is the worst month ever, probablly due much to the snow killing the economic activity.

Anyway, the owner of World Digital Imaging said if business picks up, he will give me a call, so if anyone out there needs printing done for whatever, from just making copies to business cards to calendars to triple fold envelope stuffers to 2x4 foot laminated posters of your favorite picture or anything in between…  or you know of someone with a wedding or party or class reunion or whatever.  Google World Digital Imaging and let them know what you want.  WDI quality is the same as the big box places (like Kinko’s)  and I can say that with confidence because when they get really big jobs, we print for them…  WDI prices will beat almost any you can find.  WDI service is second to none… Here is a for instance:  A local school district had to print standardized tests for the yearly testing.  Their own print shop said they couldn’t handle it, so they started looking.  When they got to WDI, and found out the over half-million pages needed was easily doable, they were relieved.  They said, well now we need to figure out how to sort them.  The WDI owner said, we could do it, and another sigh of relief, then they would need to count them out for each school… The owner said we can do it, and another sigh of relief, then then said they would need to separate them out by test type and by grade.  The owner said we can do it, and another sigh of relief.  Then they said they will need to deliver them to each school, and the owner said we can do it.  We got the job.  It hit the front door Wed evening about 2 weeks before Christmas.  The printing was started that evening.  It was finished Thursday evening, It was counted and boxed Friday and finished Saturday and delivered Monday.  NOBODY else can begin to match that kind of service!  Over half a million sheets printed, sorted by type of test and by grade (kindergarten - 12), boxed and delivered to each school, all within 4 workdays!!!  The standard guarantee is   -  50,000 standard 8 1/2 by 11 inch black & white copies within 24 hours or it is free   -

Top quality, great prices and unmatched service.

No I do not get a commission, I just used to work there, and I know what kind of a business the owner runs.

At least I have managed to save enough $$ to pay for the 2 missions trips I am planning on going on with different groups from our church this summer.  Guatemala in late June with the high schoolers and Trinidad to help at a summer camp for a week with others from church.

Biking content… I used to bike commute 4 1/2 miles each way.  Today was a nice commute with the streets mostly ice and snow free.

Oldshacker:  Yeah, with that nice windshield on your bent, you are shielded from most of the weather, and a lot of the windchill too!  I keep thinking about a bent.  Just a few reservations like visibility, on the streets, inability to hop curbs and of course, price…  I sure like the idea of not being saddle sore after a long day on a bike tour along with sore neck muscles on drop bars and tored arms and aching back…

Bikehead:  Looks like if Xenia is hosting another one, I can plan on attending unless things pick up at WDI.

Awanabug, sorry to hear you got layed off. Have you thought about
filling for Unemployment. I worked and got for two months, I was
out of work. You can file online, and you file your claim, online each
Sunday. No need to go to a office anymore.
But glad to hear you saved enough to go on two church trips this
summer. You need a small folding bike to take with you on your
trips.
Well everyone be careful out there, riding. And hope to see a few of
you on the bikeway this summer.

Thanks Bikehead!

Good news today… Last night my wife forwarded a link someone sent suggested I should try out for the “Colony” series on Discovery Channel.  I had never heard of the show, but it sounded interesting, kind of like “Survivor” without all the stupid emphasis on lying and deceit, but rather a team that works together to make a go of it for 10 weeks.  This afternoon, I went to the mall in Beavercreek and took my mt bike along (tired fenders, etc.) because I figure a picture is worth a thousand words, and it was better than a picture to give them an idea of what I am like.  Well, after filling out their paper and waiting in line about an hour, I made the first cut.  Monday, I go for a videotaped interview.  They will probably look at all the videos from this area and decide down to a few finalists and then I expect another round of some sort, maybe, or they just might use the tape as the final.  They seemed to like that I made the fenders & stuff.  When I told them I worked for a printer till yesterday they wanted to know what I did, and I gave them each my business card and told them I fix stuff and told them about fixing the booklet maker without having a manual, and they liked that.  We’ll see what happens Monday.  I have some questions for them as well.  This could be fun!  God closed the door at WDI and opened the door at Discovery Channel!  Well maybe it is open.  At least they are looking at me through the peep hole.

Wow!! awanabug sorry to hear of the layoff, but on the other hand, it’s great to hear that we might get to see you on Colony! Your group will need your survivor and communication skills. You have that amicable way that does not allow panic.

You have my thoughts and one day we all need ride somewhere and tell us all about it when you completed the episode or when the rules don’t apply.

I like Bikehead, I hope to see you all out there when the ice is gone.

Thanks for the enthusiasm, but keep in mind, I have only been screened to the point that they are interviewing me and making a video of it.  On top of that, I have questions that they will need to answer properly as well.  Then we’ll see what happens.

Biking content:  I am thinking of riding my bike to the interview downtown.  Only 4 miles, but it is likely to be raining and cold, which I really try to avoid most of the time.
