I seem to do nearly half the posts!  That’s not a good thing!

I’m still here fighting off cabin fever.  Spending a little time on the Baron clamped to a trainer.  Bor-r-r-ring.  gulp

I’m here, still biking, and geo-caching, last few mornings have been a little
cold. Haven’t been on the bike path for about a month now, but plan to start
soon. I haven’t seen Oldslacker posting for a while, need to get him going
again. Since my job, isn’t open Jan. and Feb. I get two months to enjoy
things I can’t do while working March thur Dec. I hope to see a few of you
on the Creekside, and other bikeways in Feb.

Woo Hoo!  Lots of action here today!

My job actually keeps me riding in weather that I would not ride in if I didn’t have somewhere I needed to go.  A year ago, I’d have said, “Well, since it is below freezing, I’m not going to ride today.“  Instead, I checked the temp on weather.com and dressed accordingly.  Gotta admit, though there were spots on the Iron Horse path between Woodbine and Spaulding, where it was a bit slick due to thaw-freeze spots.  I saw a night crawler frozen to the pavement Monday.  It must have gotten fooled by the 50 degree rains Sunday evening and started across the path, only to end up frozen in its tracks.

I have been keeping occupied with going to the gym three times a week, but am sidelined now, only temporarily.  Had arthroscopic knee surgery the 27 Jan, and all is healing pretty quickly.  My wife is more than ready for me to be completely healed and the weather to be warmer so I can get out of the house and her way.

I had my right knee scoped about 15 years ago.  It took a long time to get back to normal.  Months, as opposed to a few days for a friend who had it done about a year earlier.  It was 3 years before I felt confident enough to try the AF Marathon.  If you are feeling better already, you should not have any problems.

Great to hear from everyone—

I’m trying to stay busy—working out in the gym—hopefully that first ride in the spring won’t completely do me in—also trying not to over-indulge at Caribou Coffee and am learning my way around my new MacBook—a Christmas present to myself.

Stay warm all—

My computer crashed. Thus, no posting. I have been enjoying the commute in the snow. Today, however, I had my wife take me to work because of streets not as big as they used to be. Tuesday will have to be a change of rout so that I stay on the side streets. I was cutting across Indian ripple.
I got a MASI single gear bike to use once the weather is clear. For now I enjoy riding my recumbent with my stud’s.
To think, my son got this pc working just a few seconds ago and I am posting here.

Good to have you back!

I gotta admit it was a bit nippy riding to work in 3 degree weather this morning.  When I got to the bike path at Woodbine, I just rode on past.  Just riding through that crusty stuff on the sidewalks near home was enough to convince me the streets would be better!  They are predicting 6-8 inches more snow by tomorrow evening, so maybe I will drive my pickup instead of riding.  I hate to do that, but with snow coming down on the roads I ride, it would not be good, even though it is only 4.5 miles and over half is on residential streets.  Wayne is pretty heavily trafficked and Patterson is fairly busy too, but not much room for them to pass, especially with snowbanks left by plows.  I guess common sense needs to prevail now.  :-(

Saturday was great.  My riding, however was confined to the Fairfield Mall at the Commons parking lot between my pickup and the door of the mall.  Didn’t even strap on my helmet, which was hung from my bike pack.  I pushed the bike through the mall, saw a security guy, asked where the auditions were, and he said, “You will have to take the bike and park it outside first.“  Then I told him it was for the audition and he said to go ahead!  The second security guy I saw gave directions & didn’t give me the hassle, probably making the connection.  I told the guy at the audition that a picture was worth a thousand words, and my bike with its homemade “tired” fenders and homemade panniers and my homemade cold weather mask were better than a picture.  It must have worked!

It is nice to see some of the bike paths that have been covered with snow around here thin-out like my hair. County Line just below Vale Dr is still a white obstacle course. The Restaurant and National Gard piled the snow on the pedestrian/bike path so anyone that is using Iron Horse will have to dismount your steads just to cross the drive ways. Reynolds portion of Iron Hours is thinned-out enough to forge forward with some challenges to keep your speed in check.
The studs will have to stay on for a couple more days.
I hope to get a chance to ride my upright and take on Powhattan PL so that I can start to take off some fat before spring. My recumbent is still working great and is truly a work horse in this kind of weather.
The great thing about riding only two to three miles each way is that other fellow cyclist love to talke about the distance they do each day and share some of the best experiences. I do find that a good cup of coffee is even better in the cold and Icy morning.

Bad news: I have been using some of the streets because the paths are blocked and I am lazey to stop get off my bike and lift it over the ice mounds blocking ALL the bike paths. The bad new is the four to five pedestrian’s I have seen walking in the streets because each sidewalk corner has I rather large pile of Ice Rocks and slush blocking any person trying to walk to the bus stop or to work. It is sad to read that Kettering actually looses money because it takes more gas to maneuver the trucks to push snow to each corner. They should push it over to the curb side (but what do I know)It appears to me that some handicap complaints work in other cities, thus, less dependent on gas. My wife and I seen this women walking west down E Dorothy Ln around the 2500 block and almost got hit. The car in her lane had to skid because the other lane was full of cars. The woman had a few words, but what can you do when the snow is covering all the walkers routs and the streets are the only way to get from A-to-B.
