Most of the time our tandem ride is nice and fun. But, this couple thought that they would have their big fluffy dog lead the way with leash in hand. When you have a big dog on the run, other dogs can make your dog go off the path and in areas that tandems should not go. The rope was tied to center of handlebar post, something they will never do again.
They had fun being pulled by the dog at first and at the time they had a great idea. The tandem was a Roads upright that could handle the off road but the captain needs to have a few hours under his belt to really enjoy the ride.

Ha!  I used to ride my bike with my dog on a leash.  It was only 1/3 of a mile to the park and then we rode a few laps on the walking trail and back home.  Sometimes he and other dogs got excited, and I had to bail, putting the bike between him and another dog, but most of the time it worked out nicely.  You gotta have a well trained mutt to do it though.  Sigh, I sure miss him.

By the way, I lost skin more than once when he was young and learning to do it right.  The bike also lost paint, seat hide, handlebar grip ends, etc.  It took many weeks to train him.  I don’t think I would consider doing it in the woods, and I know I would not have tied the leash to the bike!
