Well, I’ve lived in Dayton for just over a year, and I must say you OH people have bike friendliness figured out (I moved from Bowling Green, KY).
I biked to work almost every day last year, from the end of April until the first day of the biggest snowstorm…dropped my truck off at the mechanic to fix the transmission he didn’t fix right, rode to work, and rode home down Creekside in 4+“ of snow for 4 miles. Got passed by a jogger and kind of burned out on biking for a while. Trying to get back into it.
You can find my on a blue Surly Long Haul Trucker wth a red Ortlieb pannier on the left side almost every weekday, somewhere between Factory and the spot where Creekside becomes a T junction. Don’t see me on a normal commute though because I leave home at 9:15 and get home at 7:45, generally speaking. Almost all of my miles since I’ve been here have been commuting on the same route, I’m ready t look into something different. Any good country roads around with some decent rollers? (not looking for climbing, just good rolling terrain like I had back home)
Looks like there are a lot of ‘bent riders here….I would definitely like to get something like a Catrike Explorer someday, but it’s out of my budget. Plus it wouldn’t fit in my apartment. Also a cargo bike is a higher priority. Speaking of cargo, you can also sometimes find me at the Kroger on Spinning Rd piulling a Burley Nomad trailer, demonstrating that I don’t need no stinking car to bring home a cart full of groceries.
