Rode the Recumbent Tandem Bike with my wife to Bob Evans for dinner

We had a nice ride to Bob Evans on 1901 Dorothy Lane tonight and got to talk about cycling with total strangers when we got their. We normally eat breakfast Sunday mornings and pull up with a few other cyclists that make it their hangout evey other Sunday morning as well. No bike rack yet, but we are working on it.

Today was a nice day to ride on Iron Horse bike path

I put the fairing on the tandem and hooked up the our bike trailer with wife being the stocker and Zelda (first mutt) our dog we all headed to Iron Horse park and beyond. At the south end of Iron Horse they put a chain link fence indicating the end of the trail. The path condition is rated a 5-being outstanding. Very clean path today. The wind was nice enough to push us home. the fairing really helped us in the headwind. Only one other cyclist took advantage of the nice but windy day. It might be too cold for most.
Main thing is that Iron Horse south of East David Road is still looking new.

Iron Horse park makes for a great rest stop and a great place to start heading north and some city riding to connect to the rest of Iron Horse.

BIG Dog pulling Tandem through the woods they go

Most of the time our tandem ride is nice and fun. But, this couple thought that they would have their big fluffy dog lead the way with leash in hand. When you have a big dog on the run, other dogs can make your dog go off the path and in areas that tandems should not go. The rope was tied to center of handlebar post, something they will never do again.
They had fun being pulled by the dog at first and at the time they had a great idea. The tandem was a Roads upright that could handle the off road but the captain needs to have a few hours under his belt to really enjoy the ride.

2 X 2 Drive

Tandem riding is not for everyone, make that every-couple! Each time the bike was loaned out to either to our good friends or fellow curious cyclists, you really can’t count on their outcome.
Case 1
A good friend of mine and his lovely wife take advantage of each sunny weekend by riding their bikes for a few miles on the bike path here locally. Their cycling styles are quite different. He rides rather vigorous at times and she rides for the scenic pleasure. Putting them on tandem for 60-minutes, was something we do not talk about now. I can say this, they are still together as husband and wife from what I was told. Not sure if his insurance paid full coverage or his wife’s insurance had a co pay for the marriage cancelling. I just don’t bring up the Tandem anymore.

Case 2
Fellow riders that we met down in Corwin a few years ago like to ride along with us to draft us on our Cannondale at 20-mph. We let them have the tandem for a week thinking that it was getting a lot of use. When I picked up the bike I was told that they already put 600 miles on it.
Their parents got them a one of the upper end Co-Motion tandem with all the high-end components and best yet the his and hers cycle gear that match as a wedding gift. We now only see them when they zoom past us while we are on our slow recumbent tandem. I really do not think that they have not stopped ridding since they got the thing. they’ll end up as some kind of urban legend

http://www.blayleys.com/articles/tandem/index.htm#Size

Time to Revive The Tandems and hit the road

Sun Recumbet tandem
Time to adjust the disk brakes, timing chain, lube the hubs, cranks, and remove the tires and tubes to check for any deterioration inside and out and put new life into them.
Wipe off the dust and head on out.

Cannondale tandem
Also, I think I am going make a trade offer for the Cannondale this year for a high racer recumbent or trike.

And yes we will be towing our dog Velda (Boston tarrier).

see you all on the path I hope
