Simon Kenton Trail

As of Aug 1, 2008 other than dried leaves on the trail close to Urbana, no problems all the way to Springfield. Apparently branches have been removed. Raspberries are starting to ripen, birds were feasting, two groundhogs noted outside of the trucking school along the trail. Nice ride, used two bottles of Gatorade during round trip.

Watch for debris

Watch of debris of all kinds on the trails.  Most still have a lot from the wind storm.

Two of us were riding along the Jamestown trail, when he ride a stick and lost control and turned sharply into me.  We both crashed pretty hard.  Both of us have class III A/C seperations (shoulder seperations).

Another part of LMST Closed

I have been informed that the Little Miami Scenic Trail is closed for about a mile North of the Corwin Staging area. Mr. Alan Ferguson the ODNR Manager of the trail said: “ I wanted to pass along that we have closed another section of the Little Miami State Park.  The trail will be closed from the Corwin staging area to the north for about 1 mile due to pavement deterioration.  Riders should probably plan on staging at Corwin for points south and Xenia Hub for points north”

New Trail Signs Going Up

Watch for new informational trail signs that are being installed along the trails in Montgomery, Miami and Greene County.

The signs provide distances to destinations like water, restrooms and cities; the name and route number of the trail you are on and what entity is responsible for the trail’s maintenance.

Little Miami Trail

The entire corridor (55 miles) has downed trees.  ODNR will begin clearing the trail tomorrow 9/19/08, but the trail may not be completely clearer for a week.

Good to be a cyclist in the Miami Valley!

Cyclists in the Miami Valley are very fortunate.

imageWe have a great system of rail trails and connectors that are very well maintained.  A number of bike stores in the area take care of most of our needs.  The Dayton Cycling Club and the Cincinnati Cycling Club provide a wealth of activities and resources for their members.

More important is the friendly and courteous people who ride the trails.  These are the real gems of the region!

Next time you’re out riding, be sure to smile and say “Hi”.

Tip:

Always tighten the strap until you can just barely open your mouth all the way. Helmets that slip due to loose straps are no protection!
