Simon Kenton Trail

As of Aug 1, 2008 other than dried leaves on the trail close to Urbana, no problems all the way to Springfield. Apparently branches have been removed. Raspberries are starting to ripen, birds were feasting, two groundhogs noted outside of the trucking school along the trail. Nice ride, used two bottles of Gatorade during round trip.

Another part of LMST Closed

I have been informed that the Little Miami Scenic Trail is closed for about a mile North of the Corwin Staging area. Mr. Alan Ferguson the ODNR Manager of the trail said: “ I wanted to pass along that we have closed another section of the Little Miami State Park.  The trail will be closed from the Corwin staging area to the north for about 1 mile due to pavement deterioration.  Riders should probably plan on staging at Corwin for points south and Xenia Hub for points north”

Great Miami River Recreation Trail Reopens

Dear Friends:

This morning I was informed by an alert reader that the Great Miami River Recreation Trail between West Carrollton and Miamisburg had been reopened by the Miami Conservancy District.

This means you can ride the trail again in the area. Thanks to Miami Conservancy District for getting this completed soonest

Little Miami Trail

The entire corridor (55 miles) has downed trees.  ODNR will begin clearing the trail tomorrow 9/19/08, but the trail may not be completely clearer for a week.

Good to be a cyclist in the Miami Valley!

Cyclists in the Miami Valley are very fortunate.

imageWe have a great system of rail trails and connectors that are very well maintained.  A number of bike stores in the area take care of most of our needs.  The Dayton Cycling Club and the Cincinnati Cycling Club provide a wealth of activities and resources for their members.

More important is the friendly and courteous people who ride the trails.  These are the real gems of the region!

Next time you’re out riding, be sure to smile and say “Hi”.

Tip:

Taking up the whole lane makes it harder for drivers to pass you to cut you off or turn into you. Don’t feel bad about taking the lane.
